The Hanover Adult Center began its existence in the basement of the Friends Church in 1977. As the Center matured, it grew into a separate entity and moved into an independent site in the present strip mall located at 7231 Stonewall Parkway. In September 1993, with support from the community and United Way of Greater Richmond and Petersburg, the Center moved into its current larger, more accommodating facility in the strip mall. The Center only offered one program during the initial beginnings and that was the Adult Day Services program providing comprehensive and affordable day health care for older adults with special needs. In 2000, the Center expanded its services by adding an additional program to provide community based day support for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
